The Boston Celtics honored the victims of the Lewiston, Maine shooting just days after the tragedy, paying tribute to them before and during their home opener against the Miami Heat on Friday.
Players took the court in Maine warmup shirts and Boston’s jerseys featured a black band with “Maine” written on it, while forward Sam Hauser arrived at the arena wearing a “Maine Basketball” sweatshirt.

Before tip-off, the Celtics held a moment of silence and their coaches wore Maine Celtics gear throughout the game.
This tribute came one day after the Boston Bruins showed their solidarity by hanging a “Lewiston Strong” jersey behind their bench, holding a moment of silence, taping their hockey sticks blue for the state of Maine, and creating the “Lewiston Strong” fund to benefit the families of those affected.
The Boston Celtics’ tribute was a powerful gesture of support for the people of Maine. It showed that the team is more than just a basketball team; it is also a community partner that cares about the people it represents.
The shooting in Lewiston was a horrific tragedy, but the Boston Celtics’ tribute showed that the community is strong and resilient. It also showed that the Celtics are a team that is committed to supporting its community in times of need.
