Texas Rangers Win First World Series Title
The Texas Rangers are World Series champions for the first time in franchise history, defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 in Game 5 on Wednesday night.
Nathan Eovaldi pitched six gutsy innings for the Rangers, and Mitch Garver broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single in the seventh. Marcus Semien added a late home run as Texas capped a record 11-0 road playoff run with three straight wins in the desert.
The Rangers had come close to a World Series championship before, but had never been able to get the job done. In 2011, they needed just one strike on two occasions to win the title, but fell to the St. Louis Cardinals.
This time, they were not to be denied.
Eovaldi was the key to the Rangers’ victory in Game 5. He pitched out of trouble all night, allowing just four hits and striking out five over 97 pitches.
The Diamondbacks had some juicy opportunities to score in the first five innings, but couldn’t convert, going 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position.
Texas finally broke through in the seventh inning when Garver singled home Corey Seager to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. They added four more runs in the ninth inning to put the game away.
The Rangers‘ victory is a long-awaited one for their fans, who have been waiting 63 years for their team to win a World Series championship.
It is also a victory for manager Bruce Bochy, who won his fourth World Series title, 13 years to the day after his first. Bochy is now the sixth manager in MLB history to win four World Series titles.

The Rangers’ World Series championship is a storybook ending to a remarkable season. They overcame injuries to key players, and they won 11 road playoff games in a row, a record.
Now, Texas Rangers win first World Series, and their fans can finally celebrate a long-awaited title.
