UGA Spotlight on the Arts Festival: A Celebration of Creativity and Culture
The University of Georgia’s annual Spotlight on the Arts festival is a monthlong celebration of the visual, performing, and literary arts. With more than 60 events and exhibitions to choose from, there is something for everyone at Spotlight on the Arts.
This year’s festival will feature a diverse range of artists and performers, including:
- Seven-time Grammy Award-winning trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard, who will headline a concert with his quintet on November 11.
- Two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning author Colson Whitehead, who will give a lecture on his work on November 15.
- The University Theatre production of “Mother Courage and Her Children,” a classic play by Bertolt Brecht.
- A student choreography performance by the department of dance.
- A night of fine opera by the Hugh Hodgson School of Music.
In addition to these headline events, Spotlight on the Arts will also feature a variety of other performances, exhibitions, and workshops throughout the month of November. Visitors can enjoy everything from classical music concerts to art openings to poetry readings.
The Georgia Museum of Art will also be celebrating its 75th anniversary with several special events during the festival, including Family Day on November 5 and Student Night on November 10. And the Lamar Dodd School of Art will host its third annual Dodd Market on November 17, where visitors can purchase artwork from talented student artists.
Spotlight on the Arts is a free event for all ages, and many of the events are also free or discounted for students. A complete schedule of events is available at arts.uga.edu.
